In Our Community

Investing At Home

Your Flin Flon Credit Union has long been a supporter of various events in the community both big and small.  On average the FFCU spends more than $10,000 annually on donations and sponsorships in the community.

If you have an event or cause upcoming and would like to seek some financial support, please feel free to write a request to the Board of Directors and it will be reviewed at the next Regular Board Meeting.

For your convenience we have an online form in the left hand column (under Community Programs>Corporate Sponsorship) that may be completed and submitted for consideration.

Of course, every local project is important and we would like to contribute to every on, but that is not financially possible.  Thank you for providing us the opportunity to assist and we wish you nothing but success in your community endeavours.

2025 WILDFIRE INFORMATION

On May 28th, 2025 mandatory evacuation orders were issued to the communities of Flin Flon, MB, Creighton, SK and Denare Beach, SK followed on May 29, 2025.

The impact of the Club fire and the Wolf fire will be felt in our communities for some time.  Our hearts are with our family, friends and neighbours who lost homes or cabins to these violent wildfires which grew to a size of over 140km long and 5km wide.

If you are a mortgage holder and have suffered damage or a loss of your property, your first contact should be your insurance company to begin your claim process.

After that process is started, you should notify your financial institution that may hold your property as collateral on a mortgage or loan.  They will then work with you and your insurance company to ensure that the next steps are clear for all involved.  You are often still expected to make your monthly payments, although many insurance policies will have a monthly amount that they will provide to you to handle the additional costs of renting another living space, if required.

This time is traumatizing.  Even an evacuation away from your home, work, family and life can provide excessive stress to most people.  If you have questions, please do not hesistate to contact us at the branch at 204-687-6620.

There are a number of resources to assist people who may be impacted by wildfires through the Insurance Brokers of Manitoba, Insurance Bureau of Canada and the Canadian Red Cross.  We have uploaded these materials or provided links below.

MEMBER UPDATE # 10 - June 26 2025

Today we are open for regular hours and full services at our branch at 36 Main Street in Flin Flon.

It has been a difficult 4 weeks for our communities, our members and our staff, but we are relieved to finally be back here, at home, to hear from you and help in any way we can.
This will represent our last “formal” Member Update as most services return to normal.

A few notes today on impacted services:

- last night, as Red Cross provided their second e-transfer payments to individuals, some of them were delayed overnight due to a technical issue. We have resolved the issue and those funds are being deposited this morning. You should see the deposits by noon today, if your e-transfer was impacted.

- our ATMs remain down as their replacement was interrupted by the mandatory evacuation on May 28th. We are working with our vendors and hope to have the new machines installed by mid to late July. We appreciate your patience and again direct you to the remote cheque deposit on the FFCU mobile banking app and for cash withdrawals to other cimmunity bank machines. We will reimburse other surcharge fees our members may incur in using other bank machines between now and when our machines are available. This is a refund request you would need to make once our ATMs are back in service, by emailing us at service@ffcu.ca

- Mobile Wallet is now available for your smartphone to be able to use ApplePay, GooglePay or SamsungPay. Look to add your debit card to your Mobile Wallet on your smartphone and learn the convenience of shopping with it in store or on the internet, straight from your chequing account.

- Many members applied to use the Evacuee Payment Relief Program in June. Just a reminder that it was only good for 30 days and so payments would again be expected starting in July. Call us for any questions you may have or check the next payment date on your online banking.

Lastly, we cannot express enough the gratitude we have for every firefighter, food and fuel support person, community administration, RCMP, conservation officer, SaskPower, MB Hydro, Highways department personnel, the private businesses who gave everything they had in time, sweat, equipment and materials to keep our communities safe. Our hearts remain broken for our family, friends and neighbours who have lost so much at Denare Beach and the surrounding lake properties.

We were here for you the last 85 years and we look forward to rebuilding with you and positioning to grow at home with you, into a bright future. ❤️
